KIT109 Assignment 2 -Witches Tower Enterprise

Working title:

Witches Tower Enterprise

The Concept statement:

Whoever said the sky’s the limit when you can cast a portal spell summoning your tower from mid-air, building as high as you want! Sounds simple, right, but as you start to find out timing, wind and unstable stacking might be your downfall.

Genre or category of the game:

The genres I believe will fit this game the best are timebase action, strategy, and fantasy. I have chosen these three because timing will be a critical strategy for building up the towers, making sure they are stable, and getting the most combination points. Action because features I hope to add in later. Lastly, fantasy because of the magical factors and mythical creatures.

The creation process and influence:

This game idea came from the idea of keeping the basics of the game simple. And what’s more simple than the one-button games? The idea came from the arcade game mega stacker, whose goal is to hit a button at the right time to stop a LED box, try to stack it on your previous LED box and slowly build higher until you reach a minor prize. If you get to that point, you can choose to walk away with that prize or further challenge yourself to go for the major prize, but the higher level you go, the faster the blocks move. However, I do not want to create a carbon copy of an existing game. Without the prizes the arcade game offers, players will decrease any motivation to continue playing the game. Therefore by adding game features from the fantasy trope, who does not love magic in their lives?

Audience and competitive analysis:

The target audience for this game is probably more towards casual players, younger to middle ages, as it is a game that would do well on mobile phones. I have come up with these targets because it is a game that would work well on mobile phones—known to have a majority player base of women, age 16 to 44 (this chart does not consider users under 16). Also with the game being a one-button/tap keeping the game fun yet straightforward. The type of game you might find a few hours had gone by before you realised. The game concept is not that difficult to work out, making it easy to pick up for anyone and easy enough that even kids can play it.

As for competitors for this game, the aforementioned Mega Stacker is one of the leading sellers in the arcade game industry and mobile games like Tower Bloxx, as someone in the class pointed out. However, even with simpler styles, Witches Tower Enterprise stand out for a much different reason.

Game treatment

In Witches Tower Enterprise, you play as a witch that summons a portal to another dimension letting a rope-like object through to the game world, but no worries. It will be holding a building block. The rope-like thing will release the building block at the press of a button, which will fall to land on the tower being built. This might seem easy, but as you will find out with the wind, not stacking the blocks perfectly stable might cause your tower to sway, and the higher you go, the more the unstableness of the stack will move to make timing critical. Speed will also play a role.

If your next building block hits the tower on edge, it may fall off, and if the tower is not stable, it may take a few blocks with it. If you make this mistake up three times, it is game over. At each level, you will have a goal to hit. Once hit, you can stop by putting the tower’s roof on or go for bonus points, but with greater rewards comes more difficult challenges.

Maybe you might want to try your luck in the unlimited level designed to see how high you can go and if you are lucky enough, you can get the highest score.
